Orange Blimps & Green Slime . . . It’s the 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards

Last night was the annual Kids’ Choice Awards (KCAs) on Nickelodeon. The KCAs are presented to the year’s favorites in the areas of music, television and entertainment with winners voted on by the viewers.

Country music star and a judge on The Voice, Blake Shelton, served as the evening’s show host and kicked off the show with a Star Wars themed introduction topped with a touch of The Voice (yes, the spinning chair). We would also see Blake dress up in a unicorn costume later in the show (viewers got to choose between three costumes for Blake) and the KCAs wouldn’t be the KCAs without plenty of green slime.

There was certainly plenty of green slime to go around last night but the highlights include John Stamos of Full House, Fuller House and Grandfathered getting a bucket full of slime, Jason Sudeikis and Josh Gad being slimed while setting up on a slingshot as a follow-up to the preview they had just done for the upcoming The Angry Birds movie. Fifth Harmony, who won for Favorite Music Group, got slimed during their acceptance speech. And, the night couldn’t end without host Blake Shelton and members of the audience getting their fair share of slime.

We enjoyed performances by Charlie Puth performing his hit song “One Call Away” then joining Wiz Khalifa on “See You Again”. “See You Again” was the song used to pay tribute to the late Paul Walker of the Fast & Furious movies. Puth and Khalifa won an award for Favorite Collaboration. DNCE would come on stage towards the end of the evening performing their hit song “Cake By The Ocean” (which ironically, is the song that just started playing on AT40 with Ryan Seacrest as we’re writing this post). DNCE was not slimed last night though Shelton did blast them with a toilet paper blaster earlier in the evening.

We mentioned earlier that Fifth Harmony won for Favorite Music Group. Fifth Harmony’s brand new single “Work From Home” is out now and it’s great. The song truly showcases the vocal range and uniqueness of each of the girls (Dinah, Normani, Lauren, Ally and Camila). Their second studio album “7/27” is due for release on May 20th. “7/27” pays homage to and is a reflection of the date the group was formed.

There were also some awards that were not presented on stage. Justin Beiber won for Favorite Male Singer, Ariana Grande won for Favorite Female Singer and Shawn Mendes won for Favorite New Music Artist. Shawn Mendes, of course, is currently on his 2016 World Tour. Shawn kicked off his tour in NYC at Radio City Music Hall on March 5th.
